As you can see there are a few major issues with the air flow over the body of the car. For example at the rear of the car there is a vortex which would drag the car back decreasing the speed. Also there is nothing directing the air over the wheels
There is also drag being caused by the under side of the car once again decreasing speed. After the air has gone over the rear wheel it is combining with the air that has just passed the bullet and forming a vortex. Which would cause drag.
The bullet shaped body works well in terms of airflow however on the front of the car there is still need for improvement as there is nothing to channel the air over the wheels as well as underneath them. Also the back wing was not on this design meaning the airflow would be slightly different.
Modification of the main design of the car through the CFD analysis. As you can see there are some improvements in terms of airflow as at the rear there isn’t as much of a vortex as in the previous design. We did this by lowering the height of the bullet at the very back which allowed the air to travel over the car smoother.
Main design With the front and back wing of the car through the CFD analysis. In terms of airflow the front wings are affective as they help channel the air over the wheels more easier, which increases the speed of the car. The nose cone also helps with airflow as when the air hits the front of the car it is distributed evenly onto the side blocks and the side of the bullet.
